Routeburn Track - Swimming at Lake Mackenzie - cold!
Routeburn Track - Side trip to Key Summit looking across Hollyford Valley to Lake Marian.
Kepler Track - Luxmore hut with Lake Te Anau South arm and Murchison mountains (last wild home of the Takahe) in background.
We had 3 days of great sunny weather on the Routeburn and 3 days of fairly wet weather on the Kepler including snow falling heavily at Mount Luxmore.
Kaka were encountered on the Routeburn (feeding on tree fuschia), Kea on the Kepler (at Forest Burn shelter), and Whio (blue duck) at the Iris Burn hut on the Kepler.
At the Te Anau Wildlife Centre we met their Takahe and Sally caught a glimpse of a very young Takahe chick.
